Certifications: Environment

BS EN ISO14001:2015 Environmental Management System: certified since 2000

The scope of our environmental management system (EMS) covers the surface ‘processing and distribution on mined ores into Potassium and Salt products for agricultural and industrial applications’ at Boulby Mine and Teesdock.
The EMS consists of processes and practices that allow Cleveland Potash Limited (CPL) to minimise its environmental impact while enhancing operational efficiency.
Adhering to environmental legislation is a key commitment outlined in CPL’s Environmental Policy. The EMS ensures that the company has established methods for identifying its legal obligations.

BS EN ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System: certified since 2024.

Our newest certification has a scope definition of ‘The energy management system related to all energy sources that the mining, processing and support activities use at ICL Boulby and at ICL Teesdock sites. The energy management system (EnMS) has process in place to measure consumption, review, identify significant energy users, set objectives and targets, and continually improve energy consumption efficiency. The EnMS supports the EMS in driving towards Net Xero carbon emissions and life-cycle efficiency projects.

BS ISO 45001:2018

The Occupational Health & Safety Management System encompasses the operations of Cleveland Potash Limited (CPL), including Underground, Surface, Tees Dock, and Administration.
This system formalises procedures that enable CPL to consistently identify and manage its health and safety risks. It aims to minimise the likelihood of accidents, support compliance with legislation, and enhance overall safety performance for employees, customers, and the general public.
Health and safety responsibilities are of utmost importance; Senior Managers are tasked with ensuring that suitable organisational arrangements and resources are allocated to meet this standard, while also overseeing its implementation and effectiveness.
The current certification has been in place since 2019. Previous certification to OHASA 18001: 2007 was in place since 2009.
