ICL Teesdock Terminal
Our Teesdock Terminal, located at Teesport in Middlesbrough, UK, is ICL uk’s dedicated dry‑bulk export facility supporting the international distribution of products from ICL Boulby mine. As the primary port-side gateway for imported potash, exported salt, and Boulby mines unique multi-nutrient fertiliser Polysulphate™, the terminal plays a vital role in connecting North Yorkshire’s mining operations with global agricultural markets.
Handling over one million tonnes of material every year, the terminal is central to ICL uk’s supply chain.
From the terminal, shipments reach major markets across:
- Brazil
- The United States
- China
- India
- Europe
This ensures that our high-quality fertilisers and industrial salts are delivered efficiently to growers, distributors, and industrial users worldwide.
Situated on No. 2 Quay at Teesport, the terminal is equipped with advanced handling and storage capabilities tailored to large-scale bulk export operations. Key infrastructure includes:
- Specialised storage silos for secure, weather-protected material containment
- Cleveland Cascades loading chutes, designed to minimise dust and ensure environmentally responsible loading
- Deep-water berths capable of handling bulk vessels for international distribution
These features enable fast, controlled loading operations and maintain the high quality of ICL’s products throughout the export process.
Seamless Rail-Connected Logistics
A dedicated rail link between Boulby mine and Teesdock ensures efficient, continuous product movement. Operated by Freightliner Heavy Haul, the service typically runs five to eight trains per day, each delivering bulk materials directly into the port-side terminal.
This direct connection significantly reduces road transport, improves efficiency, and supports ICL’s commitment to lower-carbon logistics.
The terminal is operated in partnership with PD Ports, it is more than an export facility—it is an essential component of the North East’s industrial infrastructure. As global demand for sustainable agricultural solutions continues to grow, the terminal plays a key role in distributing one of the UK’s most distinctive mineral resources.
